Artefacts' is a series of ten bronze sculptures created through the lost-wax casting process. The works originated as wax blocks that were shaped by the heat and pressure of my hands and through contact with various surfaces. During this process, materials such as brick fragments, soldering residue, LED components, and other elements were embedded into the wax. When cast in bronze, these materials were either permanently incorporated or left voids and traces of ash within the final forms.
These objects, in their wax and bronze forms, were presented to an audience alongside other items. I observed how interaction with these objects led to exploring material relationships and forming micro-narratives through performative acts and assemblage.
In some cases, the bronze objects functioned as tools, mark-makers and handles while the wax versions functioned as glue, surfaces for drawing and clay. Subsequently, casting the forms in bronze allowed the ephemeral and participatory actions and conversations to be fixed in a durable material, offering future audiences an embodied encounter with the preserved gestures, traces, and narratives of others.
